So what is a lawn mower derby? Well turns out it is just what it sounds like. Build a mower and crash them into each other! Ethan Koch is a mower derby athlete from Missouri who uses Azotherm Fire Resistant gloves to keep him safe during his derby. We asked Ethan to introduce himself and give a little background. Hey everybody, my names Ethan Koch, I’m currently 16 and I pilot the number 136 mower. If you are wondering what these are they are demolition derby lawn mowers. If you’re still confused I’d highly suggest looking it up on YouTube. They’re very entertaining! I first got introduced to fabrication when I was 14 when my cousin brought me into his shop to teach me how to weld. A majority of my family has run demo derby’s with cars and once I started learning how to weld I bought a cheap lawn mower to model it into a derby car replica. After I finished my replica I was informed that demo lawnmowers were a real thing. So I found some rules and built and ran my mower and was hooked. Now I have my own company and travel from Missouri to all over the country.
